Indications/Uses

To lower raised pressure in the eye in the treatment of glaucoma.

Dosage/Direction for Use

1 drop in the affected eye(s) in the morning & evening. Instill at least 10 min apart if used w/ with another eye drop.

Contraindications

Allergy. Patient w/ or history of resp problems eg, asthma or severe chronic obstructive bronchitis; slow heart beat, heart failure or heart rhythm disorders; hyperchloraemic acidosis. Severe kidney problems, or history of kidney stones.

Special Precautions

Discontinue if an allergic reaction or hypersensitivity (eg, skin rash, severe skin reaction, or redness & itching of the eye) is suspected. Monitor for development of eye irritation or eye problems eg, redness of the eye or swelling of the eyelids; eye infection, injury or surgery; new or worsening symptoms. Patient w/ or history of CHD, heart failure, low BP; disturbances of heart rate; breathing problems, asthma or COPD; poor blood circulation disease eg, Raynaud's disease or syndrome; diabetes; overactivity of the thyroid gland. Muscle weakness or myasthenia gravis. May change effects of some medicines used during anaesth. May discolour soft contact lenses. Remove contact lenses prior to application & wait at least 15 min before reinsertion. May affect ability to drive &/or operate machinery. Liver impairment. Not for use in pregnancy & lactation. Infants & childn.

Adverse Reactions

Burning & stinging of the eyes, unusual taste. Redness, & swelling &/or irritation in & around the eye(s), watering or itching of the eye(s), corneal erosion, feeling of having something in the eye, decreased corneal sensitivity, eye pain, dry eyes, blurred vision, headache, sinusitis, nausea, weakness/tiredness, fatigue.

Drug Interactions

Ca channel & β-blockers or digoxin; other eyedrop containing β-blocker; other carbonic anhydrase inhibitor eg, acetazolamide; MAOIs; parasympathomimetics; narcotics eg, morphine; medicines to treat diabetes; antidepressants eg, fluoxetine & paroxetine; sulfa medicine; quinidine.
