Indications and Dosage
Oral
Gastric and duodenal ulcers, Stomal ulcers
Adult: 10 mg bid, once after breakfast, once after evening meal or before sleeping. Adjust dose according to patient's age and symptoms.
Elderly: Dose reduction or increase in dosing interval may be needed.

Oral
Gastric mucosal lesions
Adult: 10 mg once daily, after evening meal or before sleeping. Adjust dose according to patient's age and symptoms.
Elderly: Dose reduction or increase in dosing interval may be needed.

Oral
Pre-anaesthetic medication
Adult: 10 mg before sleeping on the day before operation, and 10 mg 2 hr before introduction of anaesthetic on the day of operation.
Elderly: Dose reduction or increase in dosing interval may be needed.
Renal Impairment
Dose reduction or increase in dosing interval may be needed.
Hepatic Impairment
Dose reduction or increase in dosing interval may be needed.
Contraindications
Lactation.
Special Precautions
Hepatic and renal impairment. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Constipation, hyperuricaemia, increase in LFT and total bilirubin, gynaecomastia, anorexia, hallucinations.
Potentially Fatal: Anaphylactic reactions, blood dyscrasias (e.g. agranulocytosis, thrombocytopenia).
Action
Description: Lafutidine is a histamine H2-antagonist with gastroprotective activity. It is used in the treatment of gastric ulcers and before general anaesthesia to reduce the incidence of aspiration pneumonia.
Pharmacokinetics:
Distribution: Protein binding: 88%.
Metabolism: Metabolised by CYP3A4 (mainly) and CYP2D6.
Excretion: Excreted in urine as unchanged drug and metabolites
