Cefixime trihydrate
Indications/Uses
Uncomplicated UTI, otitis media, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, acute bronchitis & acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, uncomplicated gonorrhea.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >12 yr or >50 kg 400 mg once daily or 12 hrly. Uncomplicated cervical/urethral gonococcal infections 400 mg as single oral dose. Childn 8 mg/kg/day of the susp as a single daily dose or 4 mg/kg 12 hrly.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity to penicillins. Superinfection may occur during prolonged treatment. History of GI disease (colitis). Dialysis patients. Renal impairment. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
Diarrhoea & stool changes; headache & dizziness; rash, pruritus, urticaria, drug fever, arthralgia; thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, eosinophilia; mild transient changes in liver & renal function tests; genital pruritus & vaginitis.
Drug Interactions
Carbamazepine, warfarin, anticoagulants.
