Loperamide HCl
Indications/Uses
Symptomatic control of acute & chronic diarrhea. Reduces number, vol & harden the consistency of stools in patients w/ ileostomy.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Acute diarrhea Initial dose: 2 cap followed by 1 cap after any subsequent loose stool. Chronic diarrhea Initial dose: 2 cap daily; adjusted until 1-2 solid stools daily are obtained. Max dose for acute & chronic diarrhea is 8 cap daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Patients w/ acute ulcerative colitis or pseudomembranous colitis associated w/ broad-spectrum antibiotics. When inhibition of peristalsis is to be avoided. Severe hepatic disturbances. Childn <12 yr & elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Dry mouth; nausea, abdominal pain, constipation.
