Carbocysteine lysine salt monohydrate
Indications/Uses
Mucolytic & fluidifying effect in conditions w/ hyper- or hypoviscous mucus. Acute & chronic disorders of the upper & lower resp tract eg, COPD & prevention of acute exacerbations associated w/ chronic obstructive bronchitis. Ear, nose & throat disorders eg, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, laryngitis, rhinitis, rhinopharyngitis, sinusitis; otitis (syr).
Dosage/Direction for Use
Sachet Adult 1 sachet daily. Syr Adult 30 mL once daily or 15 mL bd, may be increased to tds, Childn >5 yr 5 mL bd, may be increased to tds, 1-5 yr 2.5 mL bd, may be increased to tds.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Powd for oral soln: Dissolve contents in ½ glass water & stir well before drinking.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Gastric or duodenal ulcer. Sachet: Phenylketonuria.
Special Precautions
Not recommended during 1st trimester of pregnancy. Not advised to use during lactation. Sachet: Not suitable for use in childn. Syr: Diabetic patients or low-calorie diets. Not recommended in neonates & infants.
Adverse Reactions
GI symptoms eg, gastralgia, nausea, diarrhoea, mild to moderate & transient dizziness.
