Indications/Uses
Infections due to gram-positive organisms including infections caused by β-lactamase-producing Staphylococci; resp tract infections (eg, pneumonia, lung abscess, empyema, sinusitis, pharyngitis, tonsillitis), skin & soft tissue infections (eg, boils, abscesses, carbuncles, furunculosis, infected skin conditions; osteomyelitis, enteritis, endocarditis, UTI, meningitis, septicaemia. Prophylactic agent during major surgical procedures eg, cardiothoracic & orthopedic surgery.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult (including elderly) 250 mg qds, may be increased in severe infections. Osteomyelitis, endocarditis Up to 8 g daily in divided doses 6-8 hrly. Childn 2-10 yr ½ of adult dose, <2 yr ¼ of adult dose.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take 30 min before meals.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Discontinue if skin rash occurs. Pregnancy.
Adverse Reactions
GI upsets (eg, nausea, diarrhea) & skin rashes.
