Indications and Dosage
Oral
Contraception
Adult: 500 mcg daily when used alone or 1-2 mg when used as a combination contraceptive.
Contraindications
Pregnancy, undiagnosed vag bleeding, severe arterial disease, liver adenoma, severe hepatic impairment, porphyria, after evacuation of hydatidiform mole; history of breast cancer.
Special Precautions
Heart disease, sex-steroid dependent cancer, past ectopic pregnancy, malabsorption syndromes, functional ovarian cysts, active liver disease, recurrent cholestatic jaundice, history of jaundice in pregnancy, history of CV or renal impairment, diabetes mellitus, asthma, epilepsy, migraine, depression and thromboembolism; lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Menstrual irregularities; nausea, vomiting, headache, dizziness, breast discomfort, gynecomastia, depression, skin disorders, disturbance of appetite, wt changes, fluid retention, oedema, changes in libido, cholestatic jaundice, hair loss or hirsutism.
Drug Interactions
Reduced efficacy with enzyme-inducing drugs; aminoglutethimide. May inhibit ciclosporin metabolism.

Description: Etynodiol is a progestogen that is used as a contraceptive either alone or in combination with other oral contraceptives.
