Indications/Uses
H. pylori +ve duodenal ulcers w/ appropriate antibiotics. Prevention of relapse of gastro-oesophageal reflux. Short-term management of mild functional dyspepsia.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult GERD 20 or 40 mg once daily for 4-8 wk. Prevention of GERD 20 mg once daily. Ulcer related to H. pylori infection 40 mg once daily + amoxicillin 1,000 mg + clarithromycin 500 mg bd for 10 days. Reduction of chance of gastric ulcer in patient taking NSAID 20 or 40 mg once daily. Maintenance for prevention of gastro-oesophageal reflux 20 mg daily for up to 1 yr. Functional dyspepsia 20 mg daily for 2-4 wk. Childn Individualized dosage.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take at least 1 hr before meals. Swallow whole, do not chew/crush.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Liver impairment. Pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
Not indicated for mild GI complaints. Exclude possibility of malignant gastric ulcer or oesophageal disease prior to treatment. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, abdominal pain, dry mouth, glossitis, taste abnormalities, colitis; headache, dizziness, somnolence, insomnia, tremor; skin rash, urticaria, pruritus, alopecia; increased hepatic enzymes; thrombocytopenia, anaemia, leucopenia, neutropenia & eosinophilia; asthenia, fever, oedema, arthralgia, myalgia, gynaecomastia, galactorrhoea, blurred vision.
Drug Interactions
Possible interactions w/ drugs metabolised by cytochrome P450. May reduce conc of warfarin.
