Contents
Enalapril maleate, nitrendipine.
Description
Each tablet contains 10 mg of enalapril maleate and 20 mg of nitrendipine.
Excipients/Inactive Ingredients: Sodium hydrogen carbonate, lactose monohydrate, cellulose microcrystalline, maize starch, povidone, sodium laurilsulfate, magnesium stearate.
Action
Enalapril maleate belongs to a group of medicinal products known as angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors (ACE inhibitors). Nitrendipine belongs to a group of medicinal products known as calcium channel antagonists.
Indications/Uses
It is indicated in the treatment of high blood pressure in patients who cannot be adequately controlled on enalapril or nitrendipine alone.
Dosage/Direction for Use
The doctor will tell the patient on how long his/her treatment with ENEAS tablets will last. Do not interrupt the treatment before that.
1 tablet a day, taken with a little water. Tablets must be swallowed whole, not broken up or chewed.
Do not take a double dose to make up for forgotten individual doses.
If the patient forgets to take ENEAS 10/20 mg tablets: Do not take a double dose to make up for the forgotten individual doses.
Overdosage
If the patient have taken more ENEAS tablets than the patient should, see the doctor or pharmacist immediately.
In this case the patient may have an excessive fall in blood pressure.
Contraindications
Patients who are allergic to any of its ingredients; have suffered allergic reactions to similar medicinal products; pregnant, suspect that might be, or are breastfeeding; have cardiovascular shock, cardiac insufficiency and have been diagnosed with angina pectoris, myocardial infarction or cerebral infarction in the previous days; suffering from serious renal impairment or are on haemodialysis treatment; suffering from serious liver failure; have diseases caused by narrow heart valves; have narrow renal arteries; children and adolescents.
Special Precautions
If the patient has swollen face, lips, tongue and/or larynx, interrupt the treatment and see the doctor immediately. For patients who have kidney disease, the doctor may have certain tests carried out during treatment with this medicinal product. If the patient has fever or infection during treatment, the doctor should be informed as soon as possible. Patients who have heart problems; have side effects at the beginning of treatment. Patients who have loss of fluids due to the use of diuretic medicinal products, diarrhoea or vomiting; from low salt diet, or other reasons, as it may have a sensation of dizziness on changing position suddenly.
See the doctor, even if any of the aforementioned circumstances occurred once.
Taking ENEAS 10/20 mg tablets with food and drink: ENEAS tablets can be taken with meals.
Do not take grapefruit juice at the same time as ENEAS.
Driving and using machines: This medicine may affect the patient's ability to drive or use machines at the beginning of treatment, whereby caution is recommended in this phase.
Use In Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy: See the doctor or pharmacist before taking a medicinal product. ENEAS tablets are contraindicated in pregnancy or suspected pregnancy.
If taken during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors (the group this product belongs to) may damage or kill the foetus. If the patient finds out that she is pregnant, stop taking this medicine as quickly as possible.
Breast-feeding: See the doctor or pharmacist before taking any medicine.
Do not take ENEAS if the patient is lactating.
Side Effects
Like all medicines, ENEAS tablets can have side effects. The usual side effects (common, 1-10%) are headache, facial redness, cough and swollen legs. Uncommon adverse reactions (0.1-1%) are dizziness, tachycardia, erythematous rash, nausea, dyspepsia and hypotension. Very rare (<0.01%): Isolated cases of asthenia, hypothermia, palpitation, peripheral ischaemia, blood in urine, pharyngitis, tracheitis, difficulty breathing, abdomen enlarged, alteration of hepatic analytical tests, alteration of blood potassium levels, somnolence, tingling sensation, tremor and cramps.
If the patient notices any side effects not mentioned in this monograph, please inform the doctor or pharmacist.
Drug Interactions
Inform the doctor or pharmacist if the patient is taking, or have recently taken, any other medicine, even those not prescribed. ENEAS tablets may increase the effect of other medicinal products for the treatment of high blood pressure. Do not take ENEAS tablets with potassium sparing diuretics, with potassium supplements or other drugs that can rise blood potassium levels.
Be particularly careful if the patient is being treated with any of the following medicines: Lithium, muscular relaxants, non-steroidal anti-inflammatories, oral antidiabetics, baclofen, antipsychotics, antidepressants, allopurinol, cytostatics, immunosuppressants, systemic glucocorticoids, procainamide, amifostine, cimetidine, ranitidine, digoxin, anticonvulsants, rifampicin and medicines for the treatment of infections caused by fungi.
Storage
Keep ENEAS 10/20 mg tablets out of the reach and sight of children.
This medicinal product does not require any special storage conditions.
