Adult (≥18 yr) 1.5-3 g 24 hrly or in 2 divided doses. Max: 6 g/day in divided doses. Duration of therapy: 5-14 days. Pre-terminal renal failure (CrCl <10 mL/min)Limit dose to <3 g.
Pseudomembranous colitis may occur w/ cephalosporins. Discontinue if hemolytic anemia occurs. May impair ability to drive & use machines. Pregnancy & lactation.
Probenecid may result in increased & prolonged blood levels of sulbactam. Antagonistic effect w/ combination of chloramphenicol & ceftriaxone. False-positive results in Coombs' test & urine-glucose determinations. Ceftriaxone may adversely affect the efficacy of OCs.
