Indications/Uses
Allergic rhinitis or chronic idiopathic urticaria, seasonal allergic rhinitis. Inhibition of histamine-induced wheal & flare reactions of the skin due to allergens or medications.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Histamine-induced wheal & flare 10 mg/day. Pruritus 10 mg/day. Severe pruritus Initially, 20 mg/day. Reduce to 10 mg/day upon improvement of itching. Allergic rhinitis or chronic idiopathic urticaria 10 mg as a single daily dose. Seasonal allergic rhinitis 20 mg/day.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Avoid alcohol. Hepatic or renal dysfunction. May affect ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy & lactation. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Drowsiness, headache, dry mouth.
Drug Interactions
1st-generation antihistamines. Increased risk of tachycardia w/ antiarrhythmic drugs. Cardiac & resp depression w/ large doses of alcohol. Increased antihistaminic effect w/ macrolides (eg erythromycin & clarithromycin).
