Why do I need this medicine?
Delafloxacin is an antibiotic. It is used to treat bacterial skin and skin structure infections.
How do I take this medicine?
Take Delafloxacin exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.

You may take this medicine with or without food. Try to take it at the same time each day.

You must complete the entire course of medicine. If you don't, the infection will not be properly controlled.
What should I do if I have forgotten to take this medicine?
If you miss a dose and it is 8 or more hours before the next dose is due, take the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.

If it is less than 8 hours before the next dose is due, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.

DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.

If you often forget to take your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.
When should I not use this medicine?
Do not take this medicine if you ever had an allergic reaction (rashes, breathlessness, swollen eyes) to Delafloxacin and similar medicines such as levofloxacin, ciprofloxacin, lomefloxacin, moxifloxacin, nalidixic acid, norfloxacin, and ofloxacin.
What should I take note of while taking this medicine?
Inform your doctor if you have the following conditions:
  • myasthenia gravis (muscle weakness dirsorder)
  • kidney disease
  • history of tendon disorders
Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

If you are going for dental work or treatment, inform your dentist that you are taking this medicine.

Be sure to check with your doctor or pharmacist before giving this medicine to an elderly. The elderly may be more prone to side effects.

Keep your appointments with your doctor. Your doctor needs to monitor your condition and check your response to the medication regularly. Your doctor may also need to do routine blood tests (e.g. CBC, serum creatinine, GFR level, and liver function test) while you are being treated with this medicine.
What side effects could I experience?
Delafloxacin may cause dizziness or light headedness. If affected, do not drive or take part in any activity in which you need to be alert or need to see clearly.

Other side effects may include any of the following: nausea, diarrhoea, headache, vomiting.

Some side effects may need immediate medical help. Alert your doctor quickly if you experience any of the following:
  • rashes, breathlessness, swollen face or throat
  • pain, tenderness, and mild swelling in limbs or joints
  • ruptured tendon usually characterized by a snap or pop you hear or feel, severe pain, bruising, and marked weakness on the affected area e.g. kneecap, shoulders, heel
  • numbness or tingling sensation in the hands and feet
  • unusual changes in mood or behaviour (being too depressed, agitated, having thoughts of self-harm, seeing, hearing or feeling things that are not existent)
  • stomach pain, severe diarrhoea, bloody stools
Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.
Can I take this with other medicines?
This medicine should not be taken at the same time as antacids or supplements that contain aluminium, calcium, iron, magnesium, or zinc. These may reduce the effectiveness of Delafloxacin. If you must take antacids or multivitamins containing aluminium, calcium, iron, magnesium or zinc, take Delafloxacin at least 2 hours before or 6 hours after such products.

Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
What special dietary instructions should I follow?
Avoid alcohol.
How should I store this medicine?
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
