Contents
Co-amoxiclav (amoxicillin & clavulanic acid). Per FC tab Amoxicillin 500 mg, clavulanic acid 125 mg. Per 156.25 mg/5 mL oral susp Amoxicillin 125 mg, clavulanic acid 31.25 mg. Per 312.5 mg/5 mL oral susp Amoxicillin 250 mg, clavulanic acid 62.5 mg
Indications/Uses
Middle ear & sinus, resp & urinary tract, skin & soft tissue (including dental), bone & joint infections in adult & childn.
Dosage/Direction for Use
FC tab Adult & childn weighing ≥40 kg 1 tab tds. Max duration: 2 wk. Oral susp Childn weighing <40 kg 20 mg/5 mg to 60 mg/15 mg/kg daily in 3 divided doses. Max duration: 2 wk.
Administration
Should be taken with food. Film-coated tab: Swallow whole w/ water.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to amoxicillin, clavulanic acid or penicillin. Patient w/ history of severe allergic reaction to any other antibiotic; liver problems or jaundice when taking antibiotic.
Special Precautions
Patient w/ glandular fever; irregular urine output. May worsen existing conditions or cause serious side effects eg, allergic reactions, convulsions & inflammation of the large intestine. Affects results of blood tests (eg, RBC status tests or LFTs) or urine tests (for glucose). Side effects may make patient unfit to drive. Hepatic & renal impairment. Pregnancy & lactation. Oral susp: Patient w/ phenylketonuria; glucose intolerance; controlled K diet. Contains benzyl alcohol which may cause allergic reactions; sulphur dioxide which may rarely cause severe hypersensitivity reactions & bronchospasm.
Adverse Reactions
Allergic reactions (eg, skin rash, vasculitis, fever, joint pain, swollen glands in neck, armpit or groin, swelling of face or throat, collapse); inflammation of large intestine. Thrush; nausea; vomiting; diarrhoea.
Drug Interactions
Probable allergic skin reaction w/ allopurinol. Probenecid; warfarin. Affects efficacy of MTX. May affect efficacy of mycophenolate mofetil.
