Indications/Uses
Relief of signs & symptoms of OA & RA.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult OA 200 mg/day as a single dose or 100 mg bd. RA 100-200 mg bd.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Dose for OA/RA may be given w/ or w/o meals, but doses for adenomatous colorectal polyps must be given w/ meals.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to sulfonamides & NSAIDs. Pregnancy (avoid in late pregnancy).
Special Precautions
Avoid abrupt discontinuation. Risk of GI ulceration, bleeding & perforation. Serious GI toxicity. Minor upper GI problems. Lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Abdominal pain, diarrhea, dyspepsia, flatulence & nausea; back pain, peripheral edema & injury; dizziness & headache; insomnia; pharyngitis, rhinitis, sinusitis & upper resp tract infections; rash.
Drug Interactions
Caution in co-administration w/ CYP450 2C9 agents. May diminish antihypertensive effects of ACE-inhibitors. Can reduce natriuretic effect of furosemide & thiazides. May increase rate of GI ulceration or other complications w/ aspirin. 2-fold increased plasma conc w/ fluconazole.
