Avoid use or use in reduced dose.

May be taken with or without food. Take consistently w/ or w/o meals.

Hypersensitivity; severe renal impairment; pregnancy, lactation; babies <3 mth, child, adolescent; convulsive conditions.

G6PD deficiency; impaired renal or hepatic function; exposure to strong sunlight; porphyria. Monitor blood counts, renal and hepatic function if treatment is >2 wk Arthralgia (discontinue).

Hypersensitivity reactions; nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea; abdominal pain; neurological effects; toxic psychoses or convulsions; skin reactions; tendon damage; hepatic effects.
Potentially Fatal: Auto-immune haemolytic anaemia (elderly).

Probenecid, ciclosporin, oral anticoagulants, NSAIDS, xanthines; nitrofurantoin.
Potentially Fatal: High-dose IV melphalan in child.

False-positive results in urinary glucose tests using copper reduction method.

Description: Cinoxacin inhibits DNA gyrase activity thus interfering with bacterial DNA replication. It is active against gram-negative bacteria, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, gram-positive bacteria and anaerobes are not susceptible.
Pharmacokinetics:
Absorption: Rapidly and almost completely absorbed after oral admin.
Distribution: >60% bound to plasma proteins.
Metabolism: Metabolised hepatically.
Excretion: Renally excreted; >95% of a dose is recovered in the urine within 24 hr.
