Why do I need this medicine?
Chloramphenicol is used to treat bacterial infection of the external ear canal known as otitis externa.
How do I use this medicine?
Use Chloramphenicol exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not use more or less than instructed by your doctor.

How to use this medicine:
  1. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before using the ear drops.
  2. Tilt your head or lie down on your side.
  3. Pull the upper ear up and back. Insert the nozzle into the affected ear and apply the required number of drops.
  4. Keep the head tilted or remain lying down for at least 5-10 minutes.
  5. Replace and tighten the cap after each use.
  6. Wash your hands.
Do not allow the tip of the dropper of this medicine to touch your ears or any other surface. Recap immediately after use. If this medicine becomes contaminated, it could cause an infection in your ears.

Do not share this medicine with anyone else.

Use Chloramphenicol at regular intervals. Do not skip any doses. You must complete the entire course of this medicine. If you don't, the infection will not be properly controlled.
What should I do if I have forgotten to use this medicine?
Instill the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.

DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.

If you often forget to use your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.
When should I not use this medicine?
Do not use this medicine if you ever had an allergic reaction (rashes, breathlessness, swollen eyes) to Chloramphenicol or any of its ingredients.

Alert your doctor if you have a hole or tear in your eardrum as Chloramphenicol may not be suitable for you.
What should I take note of while using this medicine?
Inform your doctor if you have blood disorders.

Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Be sure to check with your doctor or pharmacist before giving Chloramphenicol to a child. Children may be more sensitive to the side effects.

Avoid use for more than 1 week. Prolonged use of this medicine is not advisable. Use only as instructed by your doctor.
What side effects could I experience?
Chloramphenicol may cause any of the following side effects: burning, stinging, itching and inflammation of the skin.

Some side effects may need immediate medical help. Alert your doctor quickly if you experience any of the following:
  • rashes, breathlessness, swelling of the face, eyes or mouth
  • unusual bleeding or bruising
Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.
Can I use this with other medicines?
Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are using any other medicines in your ears.

Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
What special dietary instructions should I follow?
Avoid alcohol.
How should I store this medicine?
Store in the refrigerator, between 2-8 °C. Do not allow to freeze. If frozen, this medicine will become ineffective and should not be used.

Store away from the reach of children. Protect from light.

Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
