Indications/Uses
Dosage/Direction for Use
HTN Initially 6.25 mg once daily for 1st 2 days, then 12.5 mg once daily thereafter. Max daily dose: 50 mg.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. 2nd- or 3rd-degree heart block, severe bradycardia, shock, uncontrolled heart failure, asthma, history of chronic obstructive airways disease, hepatic impairment.
Special Precautions
Poor cardiac reserve. Control heart failure prior to therapy. Avoid abrupt w/drawal in patients w/ ischaemic heart disease. May mask symptoms of hyperthyroidism & early signs of acute hypoglycemia in patients w/ DM. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Symptomatic postural hypotension, dizziness, headache, fatigue, GI upset, bradycardia; diminished peripheral circulation, dry eyes, flu-like symptoms.
Drug Interactions
General anesth, other β-blockers, class I antiarrhythmic drugs or Ca antagonists eg verapamil.
