Bisoprolol hemifumarate
Indications/Uses
HTN, angina. Adjunct in stable moderate to severe heart failure.
Dosage/Direction for Use
HTN Individualized dosage. Usual starting dose: 5 mg once daily (2.5 mg may be appropriate in some patients). May be increased to 10 mg once daily, if necessary up to 20 mg once daily. Angina Usual dose: 10 mg once daily (5 mg may be adequate in some patients). Max: 20 mg daily. Heart failure Initially, 1.25 mg once daily (in the morning) for 1 wk. If well tolerated, increase to 2.5 mg once daily for 1 wk, then 3.75 mg once daily for 1 wk, then 5 mg once daily for 4 wk, then 7.5 mg once daily for 4 wk, then 10 mg once daily. Max: 10 mg daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Patients w/ cardiogenic shock, overt heart failure, 2nd or 3rd degree AV block, right ventricular failure secondary to pulmonary HTN & sinus bradycardia.
Special Precautions
Monitor renal, hepatic & hematopoietic function at regular intervals during long-term treatment.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances, bradycardia, hypotension, peripheral vasoconstriction, headache, fatigue, sleep disturbances, dizziness, vertigo, thrombocytopenia; visual disturbances, alopecia may occur.
Drug Interactions
Concomitant use w/ other β1-blockers.
