Before initiating treatment, patients should be monitored for possible change in eye colour since an increase in the brown pigment in the iris may occur; particular care is required in those with mixed coloured irides and those receiving treatment to 1 eye only. Use with caution in patients with aphakia, pseudophakia with torn posterior lens capsule or anterior chamber lenses, and in those with known risk factors for cystoid macular oedema, iritis or uveitis. Care is also needed in patients with brittle or severe asthma.
Use with Other Contact Lenses: Contact lenses should be removed prior to instillation of Avatan and may be reinserted after 15 min of its administration.
Use with Other Ophthalmic Drugs: If >1 topical ophthalmic drugs is being used, Avatan should be administered at least 5 min between applications.
Use in pregnancy: Pregnancy Category C: Advised to avoid.
Use in lactation: Present in milk in animal studies; advised to avoid.
Use in children: Use in children <18 years is not recommended.
