Co-amoxiclav (amoxicillin & clavulanic acid). Per Augpac 375 mg FC tab Amoxicillin 250 mg, clavulanic acid 125 mg. Per Augpac 625 mg FC tab Amoxicillin 500 mg, clavulanic acid 125 mg. Per Augpac 1,000 mg FC tab Amoxicillin 875 mg, clavulanic acid 125 mg. Per Augpac Injection 600 mg powd for inj Amoxicillin 500 mg, clavulanic acid 100 mg. Per Augpac Injection 1.2 g powd for inj Amoxicillin 1 g, clavulanic acid 0.2 g
Indications/Uses
Upper resp tract infections (eg, otitis media, tonsillitis, sinusitis); lower resp tract infections (eg, bronchitis, pneumonia); UTI (cystitis, urethritis, pyelonephritis); skin & soft tissue infections (eg, severe dental abscess, wound infections, cellulitis).
Dosage/Direction for Use
Augpac Adult Severe & resp tract infection 1 tab every 8 hr. Childn 25-50 mg/kg daily of the 4 parts amoxicillin + 1 part clavulanic acid prep (which corresponds to a daily dosage of the equiv of 20-40 mg/kg daily of amoxicillin & 5-10 mg/kg clavulanic acid) to be taken in divided doses every 8 hr. Augpac Injection Adult & childn >12 yr 1.2 g every 8 hr. Severe infection Increase to 6 hrly intervals. Childn 3 mth-12 yr 30 mg/kg every 8 hr. Severe infection Increase to 6 hrly intervals, 0-3 mth 30 mg/kg every 12 hr in premature & full-term infant during the perinatal period, increasing to 8 hr thereafter.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Best taken at the start of meals for better absorption & to reduce GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to penicillins & cephalosporins. Previous history of amoxicillin & K clavulanate-associated jaundice/hepatic dysfunction. Augpac Infectious mononucleosis. Patients w/ lymphatic leukemia; hyperuricaemia treated w/ allopurinol. Augpac Injection Cross-sensitivity w/ other β-lactams eg, cephalosporins.
Special Precautions
History of penicillin hypersensitivity &/or history of multi-allergen sensitivity. Discontinue if an allergic reactions occur. Patients w/ evidence of hepatic dysfunction. Augpac Patients w/ dizziness or other central nervous including visual disturbances should not drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy. Augpac Injection Patients w/ kidney dysfunction. Not for IM administration. Less stability w/ infusions containing glucose, dextran or bicarbonate. Avoid use during pregnancy.
Adverse Reactions
Hepatitis & cholestatic jaundice. Augpac Skin rashes; potentially fatal anaphylaxis. Augpac Injection Urticarial & erythematous rashes; nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, indigestion; moderate rises in AST &/or ALT.
Drug Interactions
Amoxicillin: Blood levels may be increased & prolonged blood levels w/ probenecid. Increased likelihood of allergic skin reactions w/ allopurinol. Augpac Coumarin or indandione-derivative anticoagulants; heparin; NSAIDs especially, aspirin; other platelet aggregation inhibitors or thrombolytic agents. May decrease efficacy of oestrogen-containing OCs. Augpac Injection Prolonged bleeding & prothrombin time in patients on anticoagulation therapy. May reduce efficacy of OCs.
