Indications and Dosage
Subcutaneous
Prophylaxis of deep vein thrombosis
Adult: Initially 50 iu/kg following surgery. Subsequently, 50 iu/kg bid for 14 days after surgery or until ambulatory.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity, thrombocytopaenia, active major bleeding, active peptic ulcer.
Special Precautions
Renal or hepatic impairment, history of GI ulceration, uncontrolled hypertension, spinal or epidural anaesthesia. Pregnancy, lactation; elderly. Periodic blood counts, including platelet count and stool occult blood test recommended.
Adverse Reactions
Thrombocytopaenia, mild bleeding, Inj site irritation, pain and ecchymoses, hypersensitivity and erythema.
Potentially Fatal: Haemorrhagic complications.
Drug Interactions
Potentially Fatal: Risk of haemorrhage increased with oral anticoagulants, platelet aggregation inhibitors, NSAIDs including aspirin.
Action
Description: Ardeparin Na is a LMWH with anticoagulant activity. It has been used for the prevention of post-op venous thromboembolism.
