Dried Aluminium Hydroxide Gel is a useful antacid.
It is used to provide symptomatic relief in gastric and duodenal ulcer and in reflux oesophagitis, and is used in the treatment of hyperchlorhydria. Its constipating action is counteracted by Magnesium Hydroxide, Magnesium Trisilicate which also have antacid property. Magnesium Trisilicate also has adsorbent property and is non-toxic. Simethicone is an antiflatulence which acts by changing the surface tension of gas bubbles in the stomach, thereby causing them to coalesce.
