Amlodipine
Indications/Uses
HTN; Prinzmetal's (variant) angina. Monotherapy or in combination w/ other antianginal drugs in patient w/ angina refractory to nitrates &/or adequate doses of β-blockers. Prophylaxis of chronic stable angina pectoris.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult HTN & angina Initially 5 mg once daily, may be increased to max 10 mg depending on patient's response.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Known sensitivity to amlodipine or dihydropyridines. Not to be used in cardiogenic shock, clinically significant aortic stenosis, unstable angina (excluding Prinzmetal's angina).
Special Precautions
Increased reports of pulmonary oedema in patients w/ NYHA III & IV heart failure. Hypertensive crisis. Hepatic impairment. Not to be administered during pregnancy or lactation, or to women of childbearing potential. Not recommended in childn.
Adverse Reactions
Somnolence, dizziness, headache; palpitations; flushing; abdominal pain, nausea; oedema, fatigue.
