Ciprofloxacin HCl
Indications/Uses
Corneal ulcers & conjunctivitis caused by susceptible organisms.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Corneal ulcers Day 1: Instill 2 drops into affected eye every 15 min for 1st 6 hr then 2 drops into affected eye every 30 min for the rest of the day. Day 2: Instill 2 drops into affected eye hrly. Day 3-14: Instill 2 drops into affected eye every 4 hr. May be continued after 14 days if response has not occurred. Bacterial conjunctivitis Instill 1 or 2 drops into conjunctival sac every 2 hr for 2 days then every 4 hr for next 5 days.
Contraindications
Hypersesitivity to ciprofloxacin or other quinolones.
Special Precautions
Discontinue use at 1st appearance of skin rash or hypersensitivity. Not for inj. Overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms; superinfection. Prolonged use. Avoid use w/ soft contact lens. Avoid contact of tip w/ any surface. Pregnancy & lactation. Ped patients <1 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Local burning or discomfort; margin crusting, crystals/scales, foreign body sensation, itching, conjunctival hyperemia, bad taste.
Drug Interactions
Elevated plasma conc of theophylline. Interfered metabolism of caffeine. Enhanced effect of oral anticoagulant, warfarin & derivatives. Transient serum creatinine elevations w/ cyclosporin.
