Indications/Uses
Transient, short-term & chronic insomnia in adults including difficulties w/ falling asleep, nocturnal or early awakening.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 1 tab before retiring. Elderly & hepatic insufficiency Initially ½ tab.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Myasthenia gravis, resp failure, severe sleep apnoea syndrome. Severe hepatic insufficiency. Not to be used in childn.
Special Precautions
Not to be used for treatment of depression. Rebound insomnia; anterograde amnesia; anaphylaxis, angioedema; complex sleep-related behaviors. Avoid abrupt discontinuation; taper-off dose prior to discontinuation. May affect ability to drive or use machines. Hepatic & renal insufficiency. Not recommended during pregnancy. Avoid use in lactation. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
Mild bitter or metallic after-taste.
Drug Interactions
Enhanced sedative effect w/ alcohol. Enhanced central depressive effect w/ CNS depressants. Enhanced euphoric effect of benzodiazepines & benzodiazepine-like agents w/ narcotic analgesics. Enhanced activity of benzodiazepines & benzodiazepine-like agents w/ CYP450 inhibitors. Increased plasma levels w/ erythromycin, clarithromycin, ketoconazole, itraconazole, ritonavir. Decreased plasma levels w/ rifampicin, carbamazepine, phenobarb, pheytoin, St. John's wort. Co-administration w/ antipsychotics (neuroleptics), hypnotics, anxiolytics/sedatives, antidepressants, narcotic analgesics, anti-epileptics, anaesth & sedative antihistamines.
