AdultMost infections 250 mg bd. UTI 125 mg bd. Mild to moderate lower tract infections eg, bronchitis 250 mg bd. More severe lower tract infections or if pneumonia is suspected 500 mg bd. Pyelonephritis 250 mg bd. Uncomplicated gonorrhoea 1 g as single dose. Sequential therapy: Pneumonia Cefuroxime Na 1.5 g inj tds or bd IV/IM for 48-72 hr followed by cefuroxime axetil 500 mg PO bd for 7-10 days. Acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis Cefuroxime Na 750 mg tds or bd IV/IM for 48-72 hr followed by cefuroxime axetil 500 mg PO bd for 5-10 days. ChildnMost infections 125 mg bd, max dose: 250 mg daily. Childn ≥2 yrOtitis media or more severe infections 250 mg bd, max dose: 500 mg daily.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins.
Special Precautions
Penicillin-sensitive patients. History of GI disease particularly colitis. Prolonged use. Transient or persistent renal insufficiency. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <3 mth.
