Baloxavir marboxil
Indications/Uses
Acute uncomplicated flu in patients ≥12 yr who have been symptomatic for no >48 hr & are otherwise healthy or at high risk of developing flu-related complications. Post-exposure flu prophylaxis in persons ≥12 yr following contact w/ individual who has flu.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & adolescent ≥12 yr at least 80 kg 80 mg as single dose, 40 kg to <80 kg 40 mg as single dose.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Do not take w/ dairy products, Ca-fortified beverages, laxatives, antacids, or oral supplements containing Fe, Zn, Se, Ca or Mg.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity. Risk of bacterial infections. Avoid co-administration w/ dairy products, Ca-fortified beverages, polyvalent cation-containing laxatives, antacids or oral supplements eg, Ca, Fe, Mg, Se or Zn. Pregnancy & lactation. Ped <12 yr. Elderly ≥65 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Diarrhea, bronchitis, nausea, sinusitis, headache, nasopharyngitis.
Drug Interactions
Decreased plasma conc w/ polyvalent cation-containing laxatives, antacids or oral supplements eg, Ca, Fe, Mg, Se, Zn. Inhibited viral replication & decreased effectiveness of live attenuated flu vaccine.
