Contents
Aspirin 100 mg, glycine 45 mg
Indications/Uses
Transient ischaemic attacks, secondary prevention of MI. Prophylaxis against stroke, vascular occlusion & DVT.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
Should be taken with food: Swallow whole or may be dispersed in water. Consume immediately. Take w/ meals to reduce gastric irritation.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to ASA or NSAIDs. Active or history of peptic ulceration, haemophilia, other clotting disorders or gout. Not to be given concurrently w/ anticoagulants.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity to other anti-inflammatory/antirheumatic drugs or other allergenic substances. Allergies or asthma, hay fever, nasal polyps, chronic resp tract infections. Patients w/ prior history of serious GI events & other risk factors associated w/ PUD eg, alcoholism, smoking & corticosteroid therapy; gastric or duodenal ulcers or history of GI bleeding; gout attack. Surgery eg, dental extractions. Concomitant use w/ anticoagulants. Renal or hepatic impairment. Avoid use during 3rd trimester of pregnancy & lactation. Not to be given in childn & teenagers <16 yr. Elderly or debilitated patients.
Adverse Reactions
GI disorders eg, heartburn, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain; headache, dizziness, impaired hearing ability, tinnitus; bleeding; hypersensitivity reactions; elevated liver values; bronchospasm; angioedema, Reye's syndrome.
Drug Interactions
Increased risk of bleeding w/ anticoagulants, thrombolytic drugs, other platelet aggregation inhibitors eg, ticlopidine, clopidogrel. Increased risk of GI side effects w/ cortisone or cortisone-like containing drugs. Increased risk of GI ulcers & bleeding w/ alcohol, other analgesics & anti-inflammatory drugs. Reduced blood glucose level w/ antidiabetics. Increased risk of GI bleeding w/ SSRIs. Weakened effects w/ triiodothyronine. Digoxin, MTX, valproic acid, sulphonamides & sulphamethoxazole/trimethoprim, aldosterone antagonists & loop diuretics, ACE inhibitors, probenecid, benzbromarone.
