Paracetamol
Indications/Uses
Relief of fever & mild to moderate pain eg, headache, migraine, muscle, back & toothache, dysmenorrhea, sore throat, musculoskeletal & OA pain, fever & pain after vaccination, pain after dental procedures/tooth extraction. FC tab: Myalgia & neuralgia, discomfort from colds & flu. Oral drops: Analgesic in teething.
Dosage/Direction for Use
500-mg tab Adult & childn >12 yr 1-2 tab every 4-6 hr. Max: 4 doses in 24 hr. 650-mg tab Adult 1-1½ tab tds-qds. Max: Not to exceed 6 tab daily. FC tab Adult & childn >12 yr 1-2 tab every 4-6 hr. Max: 8 tab in 24 hr. Oral drops Infant 1-2 yr, 10-12 kg 1.5-1.8 mL, 6-12 mth, 8-10 kg 1.2-1.5 mL, 3-6 mth, 6-8 kg 0.9-1.2 mL, 1-3 mth, 4-6 kg 0.6-0.9 mL. Not >4 doses in 24 hr.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Tab/FC tab: Severe & active hepatic impairment.
Special Precautions
Discontinue use if severe skin reactions occur. Not to be taken w/ other paracetamol-containing medicines. Avoid large doses in patients w/ hepatic impairment. Renal impairment. Tab/FC tab: Alcohol dependence.
Adverse Reactions
Rarely, haematological & cutaneous hypersensitivity reactions eg, skin rashes, angioedema, SJS, TEN.
Drug Interactions
Enhanced anticoagulant effect of warfarin & other coumarins.
