Indications and Dosage
Topical/Cutaneous
Acne vulgaris
Adult: As 3% lotion: Apply over the entire face daily. As 3.5% cream mask: Gently massage onto clean wet skin for 2-3 minutes until mask turns light blue. Leave on for an additional 10 minutes until dry then rinse off with warm water and pat dry. Use 2-3 times weekly. As 5% or 10% ointment: Cleanse the skin thoroughly then apply a thin layer over the affected area(s) 1-3 times daily. Leave on for 10 minutes. As 10% soap: Work up a lather using warm water and apply to the affected area(s). Rinse thoroughly and pat dry.

Topical/Cutaneous
Scabies
Adult: As 10% ointment: Take a thorough bath before each application and 24 hours after the last treatment. Apply and gently massage on all skin areas from the neck to the toes (including the soles of the feet). Leave on for 24 hours after application. Repeat for 2-3 days or as directed. As soap: Use like any soap. Allow lather to stay on the skin for 1-2 minutes.
Special Precautions
Intended for external use only.
Adverse Reactions
Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders: Skin dryness, irritation, inflammation.
Patient Counseling Information
Avoid contact with eyes, mouth and other mucous membranes. Do not use on broken skin. This drug stains clothing, bedding, and metal (e.g. silver and copper), including jewelry.
Drug Interactions
Skin dryness and irritation is more likely to occur if used together with another topical acne medication.
Action
Description:
Mechanism of Action: Sulfur exerts keratoplastic activity at low concentrations, correcting abnormal keratinisation, and keratolytic activity at high concentrations, causing peeling of the skin. It also has mild antifungal and antibacterial activity. It has been suggested that when applied topically to the skin, it forms hydrogen sulfide and/or polythionic acid, which may exert a germicidal effect.

Store between 15-35°C.
