Acetylcysteine
Indications/Uses
Reduces viscosity of mucous secretion from resp tract. Antidote for acute acetaminophen poisoning.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 1 tab once daily. Acetaminophen poisoning Adult & childn 140 mg/kg followed by 17 doses of 70 mg/kg every 4 hr; repeat dose if emesis occurs w/in 1 hr of administration.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: For reduction of viscosity of mucus secretion: Preferably taken at night, before or after meal. Dissolve tab in a glass of water.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Phenylketonuria. Childn <2 yr.
Special Precautions
Discontinue use if bronchospasm occurs. Patients w/ asthma. Pregnancy.
Drug Interactions
Concurrent use w/ amoxicillin, doxycillin, erythromycin.
