Indications/Uses
Duodenal & gastric ulcer, GERD (including heartburn & peptic oesophagitis), persistent dyspepsia & pathological hypersecretory states eg, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Max: 2.4 g daily. Duodenal ulcer 800 mg daily in 1-2 divided doses or 200-400 mg tds w/ 400 mg at bedtime for 4 wk. Prophylaxis of recurrent duodenal ulcer 400 mg daily for 6 mth. Benign gastric ulcer 400 mg bd or 200 mg tds w/ 400 mg at bedtime for 6 wk. Recurrent gastric ulcer 400 mg daily. Reflux oesophagitis Mild to moderate conditions: 400 mg bd. Severe conditions: 400 mg qds for 12 wk. Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, other gastric hypersecretory states 200-400 mg tds w/ 400 mg at bedtime. Dyspepsia 200 mg qds for 4 wk. Childn 1-12 yr 20-25 mg/kg daily in divided doses.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Special Precautions
Exclude gastric malignancy before treatment. Renal impairment. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Altered bowel habits, diarrhoea, headache, tiredness, dizziness, somnolence, rash, reversible impotence, gynaecomastia, reversible confusional states, reversible hepatic damage.
Drug Interactions
Theophylline, phenytoin, valproate, carbamazepine, antiarrhythmics, benzodiazepines, β-blockers, coumarin anticoagulants.
