Indications/Uses
Relief of constipation & bowel evacuation prior to radiological exam.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult including elderly & childn >12 yr 1-2 tab at night.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Undiagnosed acute or persistent abdominal symptoms. Intestinal obstructions & stenosis, atony, appendicitis, inflammatory bowel diseases eg, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis; severe dehydration w/ water & electrolyte depletion. Heart failure. Unknown cause of faecal impaction or rectal bleeding, or blood in stools. Not to be used w/ other laxatives. Renal failure. Pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
Consult physician if there is no bowel movement after 3 days & if abdominal pain persists. Not to be given to patients w/ galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption. Not recommended in childn ≤12 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Temporary mild gripping during dose adjustment. Spasms, diarrhea, allergic reactions, yellow or red-brown urine discolouration. Albuminuria, haematuria (chronic use).
Drug Interactions
Cardiac glycosides, antiarrhythmic; medicines inducing reversion to sinus rhythm, QT-prolongation, hypokalaemia (eg, diuretics, adrenocorticosteroids, liquorice root).
