Live, oral pentavalent vaccine, rotavirus
Indications/Uses
Prevention of rotavirus gastroenteritis in infants & childn caused by serotypes G1, G2, G3, G4 & G-serotypes containing P1A[8] (eg, G9).
Dosage/Direction for Use
Vaccination series: 3 doses administered orally to infant. 1st dose: At 6-12 wk; subsequent doses should be administered at min: 4-wk interval between each dose.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Gently squeeze liqd into infant's mouth toward the inner cheek until dosing tube is empty.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to vaccine or after previous inj. Severe combined immunodeficiency disease (SCID).
Special Precautions
Individuals w/ malignancies or immunocompromised or those receiving immunosuppressive therapy; HIV-infected; those who have received blood transfusion or products eg, Ig w/in 42 days. Acute infection or febrile illness. Infants w/ active GI illness, chronic diarrhea, growth retardation or history of congenital abdominal disorders or intussusception. Infant <6 wk.
Adverse Reactions
Diarrhea, vomiting; pyrexia.
