Indications/Uses
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Take out tab from the strip w/ dry hands & place on the tongue to disintegrate. Swallow disintegrated tab w/o water.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Concomitant use w/ MAOIs.
Special Precautions
History of suicide-related events, suicidal ideation, mania/hypomania. Bone marrow depression. Discontinue use if jaundice occurs. Monitor patients w/ epilepsy & organic brain syndrome; cardiac disease eg, conduction disturbances, angina pectoris & recent MI; low BP; DM; schizophrenia or other psychotic disturbances; bipolar disorder; micturition disturbances, prostrate hypertrophy, acute narrow-angle glaucoma, increased IOP; akathisia/psychomotor restlessness. Known CV disease & family history of QT prolongation. Hyponatremia; phenylketonuria. Fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption or sucrase-isomaltase insufficiency. Concomitant use w/ drugs prolonging QTc interval & cause hyponatremia; SSRIs. Avoid abrupt w/drawal. May affect ability to drive & use machines. Hepatic & renal impairment. Pregnancy & lactation. Not to be used in childn & adolescents <18 yr. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Increased wt & appetite; somnolence, sedation, headache; dry mouth. Abnormal dreams, confusion, anxiety, insomnia; lethargy, dizziness, tremor; orthostatic hypotension; nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation; exanthema; arthralgia, myalgia, back pain; peripheral edema, fatigue.
Drug Interactions
Serotonin syndrome w/ other serotonergic drugs. Increased sedating effect of benzodiazepines & other sedatives (eg, antipsychotics, H1-antagonists, opioids). Increased CNS depressant effect of alcohol. Increased INR w/ warfarin. Risk of QT prolongation &/or ventricular arrhythmia w/ drugs prolonging QTc interval. Decreased plasma conc w/ carbamazepine, phenytoin, CYP3A4 inhibitors. Increased peak plasma levels & AUC w/ ketoconazole. Increased plasma conc w/ cimetidine. HIV PIs, azole antifungals, erythromycin or nefazodone.
