Indications and Dosage
Topical/Cutaneous
Pityriasis versicolor
Adult: As 1% cream: Apply to affected areas once daily for 2 wk.

Topical/Cutaneous
Tinea corporis, Tinea cruris, Tinea pedis
Adult: As 1% cream or lotion: Apply to affected and immediately surrounding areas 1-2 times daily. Duration of treatment: 2 wk for tinea corporis and tinea cruris or 1 mth for tinea pedis.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions
Pregnancy and lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Pruritus, burning, irritation, stinging, erythema, rash, folliculitis, papules, nodules, maceration, fissuring, scaling, tingling, pain, dyshidrotic eczema, contact dermatitis.
Patient Counseling Information
Avoid contact w/ eyes or vagina.
Action
Description:
Mechanism of Action: Oxiconazole, a synthetic azole antifungal, is usually fungistatic but may be fungicidal in high concentrations. It exerts its antifungal activity by interfering w/ ergosterol synthesis and altering cellular membranes. It also has some antibacterial activity against aerobic gm+ve organisms.
Pharmacokinetics:
Absorption: Absorbed in each dermis layer. Very low systemic absorption.
Distribution: To each dermis layer.
Excretion: Via urine (<0.3%).
