Omega-3 acid ethyl esters 90 (EPA 460 mg, DHA 380 mg)
Indications/Uses
Adjuvant treatment in secondary prevention after MI in addition to other standard therapy eg, statins, anti-platelet drugs, β-blockers, ACE inhibitors. Supplement to diet when dietary measures alone are insufficient to produce adequate response in monotherapy of type IV endogenous hypertriglyceridaemia or in combination therapy w/ statins in type IIb/III endogenous hypertriglyceridaemia when control of triglycerides is insufficient.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Post MI 1 cap daily. Hypertriglyceridaemia Initially 2 cap daily, may be increased to 4 cap daily.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take w/ food to avoid GI disturbances.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to omega-3 ethyl esters, soya or peanut.
Special Precautions
Not indicated in exogenous hypertiglyceridaemia (type 1 hyperchylomicronaemia). Patients w/ bleeding disorders, at high risk of hemorrhage due to severe trauma, surgery. Monitor ALAT & ASAT levels regularly in particular w/ high dosage (ie, 4 cap). Concomitant use w/ anticoagulant therapy or other drugs affecting coagulation eg, ASA or NSAIDs. Renal & hepatic impairment. Not to be used during pregnancy & lactation. Childn. Elderly >70 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Gi disorders eg, abdominal distension & pain, constipation, diarrhea, dyspepsia, flatulence, eructation, GERF, nausea or vomiting.
Drug Interactions
Increased bleeding time w/ oral anticoagulants or other drugs affecting coagulation eg, ASA or NSAIDs. Monitor INR w/ drugs affecting prothrombin time/INR.
