Indications/Uses
DM in adults, adolescents & childn ≥1 yr.
Dosage/Direction for Use
SC/IV 0.5-1 U/kg daily in combination w/ intermediate- or long-acting insulin.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Administer immediately before or after a meal.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Diabetic ketoacidosis; hyper- & hypoglycaemia; concomitant illness, infections & feverish conditions; diseases affecting adrenal, pituitary or thyroid gland; lipodystrophy & cutaneous amyloidosis; inj site reactions. May cause formation of insulin Ab. Physical activity, diet changes or during concomitant illness. Monitor blood glucose during infusion. Not to be mixed w/ other insulin prep. Transferring to another type or brand of insulin. Combination w/ thiazolidinediones in CHF patients. May affect ability to drive & use machines. Renal or hepatic impairment. Intensified blood glucose control & monitoring during pregnancy. Dosage adjustment during lactation. Childn <1 yr. Elderly.
Drug Interactions
Reduced insulin requirement w/ oral antidiabetics, MAOIs, β-blockers, ACE inhibitors, salicylates, anabolic steroids, sulfonamides. Increased insulin requirement w/ OCs, thiazides, glucocorticoids, thyroid & growth hormones, sympathomimetics, danazol. Masked hypoglycaemia symptoms by β-blockers. Increased or decreased insulin requirement w/ octreotide/lanreotide. Intensified or reduced hypoglycaemic effect by alcohol.
