Indications/Uses
Pain & inflammation associated w/ cataract surgery. Reduce risk of post-op macular oedema associated w/ cataract surgery in diabetic patients.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Instill 1 drop to affected eye(s) tds 1 day prior to cataract surgery, continue on the day of surgery until 1st 2 wk post-op. Reduce risk of post-op macular oedema associated w/ cataract surgery in diabetic patient Instill 1 drop into conjunctival sac of affected eye(s) tds 1 day prior to cataract surgery, continue on the day of surgery & up to 60 days post-op. Additional drop should be administered 30-120 min prior to surgery.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to nepafenac or other NSAIDs. Asthma, urticaria or acute rhinitis attacks precipitated by ASA or NSAIDs.
Special Precautions
Not to be inj. Discontinue use if corneal epithelial breakdown is evident. Patients w/ complicated & repeat ocular surgeries, corneal denervation & epithelial defects, DM, ocular surface diseases, dry eyes, RA; known bleeding tendencies or receiving drugs prolonging bleeding time. May cause punctate keratopathy, toxic ulcerative keratopathy & eye irritation due to benzalkonium Cl. May mask acute ocular infection. Avoid wearing contact lens during treatment. Avoid exposure to sunlight. Remove contact lens prior to application & wait at least 15 min before reinsertion. Administer at least 5 min apart if >1 topical ophth medicinal product is used. Cross-sensitivity to ASA, phenylacetic acid derivatives & other NSAIDs. Concomitant use of topical corticosteroids. May affect ability to drive & use machines. Women of childbearing potential should use effective contraception. Not recommended during pregnancy. Not recommended in childn & adolescents.
Adverse Reactions
Punctate keratitis, foreign body sensation in eyes, eyelid margin crusting.
Drug Interactions
Potential healing problems w/ topical steroids. Increased risk of hemorrhage w/ medications prolonging bleeding time. Not recommended w/ prostaglandin analogues.
