Testosterone undecanoate
Indications/Uses
Testosterone replacement therapy for male hypogonadism when testosterone deficiency has been confirmed by clinical features & biochemical tests.
Dosage/Direction for Use
1 amp IM every 10-14 wk, the 1st inj interval may be reduced to min of 6 wk.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Androgen-dependent prostate or male mammary gland carcinoma, hypercalcemia accompanying malignant tumors, past or present liver tumors. Not to be used in women.
Special Precautions
Anaphylactic reactions. Exclude prostatic carcinoma prior to treatment. Regularly monitor prostate, Hb & haematocrit. Acquired or inherited bleeding disorders; thrombophilia; patients predisposed to oedema; HTN; preexisting sleep apnea. Pulmonary microembolism. Not for enhancing muscular development or increasing physical ability. Concomitant use w/ coumarin oral anticoagulants. Benign & malignant liver tumors. Childn & adolescents <18 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Acne; inj site reactions; polycythaemia; increased wt; hot flush; increased prostate specific antigen, abnormal prostate exam, benign prostate hyperplasia.
Drug Interactions
Increased clearance w/ barbiturates & other enzyme inducers. Increased oxyphenbutazone serum levels. Increased activity of oral anticoagulants. Enhanced blood sugar reducing effects of insulin.
