Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Hypercalcemia or hypercalciuria.
Special Precautions
Not to be used for pernicious anaemia & severe specific deficiency. Manifestation of vit A toxicity. High doses. Prolonged use.
Adverse Reactions
Fatigue, irritability, anorexia & wt loss, other GI disturbances, low grade fever, polyuria, hepatosplenomegaly, pruritus, hair loss, cracked & bleeding lips, dry skin w/ desquamation, hyperkeratosis & yellow pigmentation. Weakness, headache, somnolence, nausea, dry mouth, constipation, muscle & bone pain, metallic taste. Eczema, urticaria or asthma.
Drug Interactions
Increased vit A plasma level w/ OCs. Induced hypercalcaemia & hypercalciuria w/ excessive dosage of vit D. Precipitated cardiac arrhythmias w/ digitalis. Reduced absorption of fat soluble vit by cholestyramine. Decreased efficacy of levodopa. Concomitant use of fluphenazine & anticonvulsants.
