Contraindications
Lactation (discontinue from the 1st day of treatment).

Special Precautions
Pregnancy may occur during treatment for amenorrhoea-galactorrhoea, even without resumption of menstruation. Perform pregnancy test every 20 days and discontinue treatment. Nonhormonal contraceptives may be used.

Nausea, vomiting, insomnia, drowsiness, anxiety, dizziness, weakness.

Description:
Mechanism of Action: Metergoline, an ergot derivative, is a dopamine agonist with actions similar to bromocriptine. It is also a serotonin antagonist. It appears to take part in hypothalamic-pituitary neuroendocrine control, stimulating adrenocorticotropic hormone and prolactin release. Pharmacokinetics: Absorption: Well-absorbed (oral). Metabolism: Extensively hepatic. Excretion: Via faeces (70-80%). |
