Mometasone furoate
Indications/Uses
Relief of inflammatory & pruritic manifestations of corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses. Lotion: Scalp lesions.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Cream Adult, elderly & childn ≥2 yr Apply once daily until lesion heals or for 3 wk. Lotion Apply few drops to affected skin areas once daily, massage gently & thoroughly until medication disappears.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to mometasone furoate or corticosteroids. Lotion: Skin atrophy, bacterial (eg, impetigo, pyodermas), viral (eg, herpes simplex & zoster, chickenpox, verrucae vulgares, condylomata acuminata, molluscum contagiosum), parasitical & fungal (eg, candida or dermatophyte) scalp infections. Not to be used on wounds or ulcerated skin.
Special Precautions
Discontinue use if irritation & infection develops. Not for ophth use. Hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis suppression w/ potential for glucocorticosteroid insufficiency; Cushing's syndrome, hyperglycaemia, glycosuria; psoriasis; visual disturbances. Avoid abrupt discontinuation. May delay wound healing. Avoid application in large areas, areas under occlusion & prolonged use. Pregnancy & lactation. Monitor growth & development in childn. Ped patients <2 yr. Lotion: Avoid smoking or going near naked flames. May cause skin irritation due to propylene glycol.
Adverse Reactions
Irritation, dryness, folliculitis, hypertrichosis, acneiform eruptions, hypopigmentation, perioral dermatitis, allergic contact dermatitis, secondary infection, striae, miliaria.
