Lincomycin HCl
Indications/Uses
Serious infections due to Staph, Strep, pneumococci, meningococci & other susceptible organisms.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IM Adult Serious infections 600 mg every 24 hr. More severe infections 600 mg every 12 hr or as needed. Childn >2 yr Serious infections 10 mg/kg every 24 hr. More severe infections 10 mg/kg every 12 hr or as needed. IV infusion Adult Serious infections 600 mg-1 g every 8-12 hr. Life-threatening infections 8 g daily. Childn >2 yr 10-20 mg/kg daily depending on severity. Severe renal impairment 25-30% of adult dose.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to lincomycin or clindamycin.
Special Precautions
Discontinue use if allergic reactions occur. Hypersensitivity to peniciliin. Not for minor bacterial or viral infections; non-bacterial infection eg, most URTI. Severe colitis. Not recommended in preexisting hepatic disease. Hepatic or renal impairment. Pregnancy. Not to be used during lactation. Avoid use in childn <2 yr. Not to be used in newborns, neonates.
Adverse Reactions
Diarrhoea, vomiting, nausea.
Drug Interactions
Enhanced action of neuromuscular-blocking agents. Antagonism w/ erythromycin. Incompatibility w/ novobiocin, kanamycin, phenytoin.
