Indications/Uses
Ocular infections involving conjunctiva &/or cornea caused by chlorampenicol-susceptible organisms
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & ped Apply thin strip approx 1 cm into conjunctiva every 3 hr.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Discontinue use if irritation or redness occur. Avoid prolonged or frequent intermittent use. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Hypersensitivity, irritation.
Drug Interactions
Interfered metabolism of dicumarol, phenytoin, tolbutamide & chlorpropamide. Interfered metabolism by phenytoin & acetaminophen. Subtherapeutic conc w/ phenobarb, rifampin. Antagonised effect w/ β-lactams against Klebsiella pneumoniae, aminoglycosides against E coli, ampicillin against certain Salmonella strains, penicillin against pneumococcus. Increased renal excretion by diuretics eg, mannitol, ethacrynic acid, hydrochlorothiazide.
