Ketorolac tromethamine
Indications/Uses
Short-term management of moderate to severe acute post-op pain in surgical procedures associated w/ low risk of haemorrhage.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >16 yr 10 mg 4-6 hrly. Elderly ≥65 yr 10 mg 6-8 hrly. Max: 40 mg daily for ≤7 days.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take immediately after meals.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to aspirin & NSAIDs. History of asthma, nasal polyps, angioedema or bronchospasm; GI ulceration or bleeding; haemorrhagic diatheses, operations w/ high risk of haemorrhage or incomplete haemostasis; cerebrovascular bleeding; hypovolaemia, dehydration. Moderate or severe renal impairment. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <16 yr.
Special Precautions
Heart failure, HTN, preexisting GI ulcer. Renal & hepatic impairment. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
GI ulceration, bleeding & discomfort; prolonged bleeding time, epistaxis, drowsiness, dizziness, headache, thirst, dry mouth, rash. Less frequently, thrombocytopaenia, dyspnoea, pulmonary oedema, liver function changes, pancreatitis, bradycardia, HTN, convulsions, renal dysfunction, anaphylaxis.
Drug Interactions
MTX, diuretics, lithium, anticoagulants, ACE inhibitors, probenecid, oxpentifylline, other NSAIDs.
