Action
Description:
Mechanism of Action: Josamycin binds reversibly to 50s ribosomal subunit causing blockage of transpeptidation/translocation reactions, inhibition of protein synthesis and thus inhibition of cell growth. Spectrum of activity includes many gm+ve and some gm-ve bacteria as well as mycoplasmas, spirochetes, chlamydias and rickettsias. Josamycin is more active than erythromycin against some strains of anaerobic species eg, Bacteroides fragilis.
