Chlorhexidine gluconate
Indications/Uses
Mouthwash: Inhibits dental plaque formation. Helps in treatment & prevention of gingivitis. Maintenance of oral hygiene. Oromucosal gel: Oral hygiene, relief of gingivitis, mouth ulcers & oral infections.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Mouthwash Adult, elderly & childn Rinse for 1 min w/ 10 mL bd. Dental surgery Rinse for 1 min prior to treatment. Gingivitis Use for 1 mth. Aphthous ulceration & oral candidal infections Continue for 48 hr after clinical resolution. Dental stomatitis Clean & soak dentures for 15 min bd. Oromucosal gel Oral hygiene, plaque inhibition & gingivitis Brush teeth once or bd. Management of aphthous & other oral ulcers Apply once or bd on affected areas.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Discontinue use if hypersensitivity reactions occur. Not intended to be swallowed. Formation of yellow-brown stain in tongue & teeth; temporary taste perception alteration. Avoid contact w/ eyes.
Adverse Reactions
Irritative skin reactions; superficial discoloration of teeth & tongue; transient taste disturbance.
Drug Interactions
Incompatibility w/ anionic agents.
