Fe deficiency anaemia where there is clinical need for rapid Fe supply, in patients who cannot tolerate or are non-compliant to oral Fe therapy, or in active inflammatory bowel disease where oral Fe prep are ineffective.
Adult & elderly 5-10 mL 1-3 times wkly based on Hb level. Childn Not to exceed 0.15 mL/kg 1-3 times wkly based on Hb level. Max: 10 mL over at least 10 min not >3 times wkly. Patient >70 kg Max: 25 mL over at least 3½ hr as single dose once daily not more than once wkly, <70 kg Max: 7 mg/kg over 3½ hr as single dose once daily not more than once wkly.
View Heamofer overdosage for action to be taken in the event of an overdose.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to Fe sucrose or other parenteral Fe. Anaemia not attributable to Fe deficiency. Fe overload or disturbance in Fe utilisation. 1st trimester of pregnancy.
Discontinue use if hypersensitivity reactions or signs of intolerance occur. Not to be inj IM. Discontinue use in patients w/ ongoing bacteraemia. History of severe asthma, eczema or other atopic allergy. Immune or inflammatory conditions eg, SLE, RA. Hypotensive episodes; acute or chronic infection. Avoid paravenous leakage at the inj site. Avoid rapid inj. May affect ability to drive & use machines. Avoid use in hepatic dysfunction. Not to be used during pregnancy. Lactation.
