Glucomannan

Difficulty in swallowing.

May cause oesophageal obstruction and faecal impaction. Taken with fluid and not immediately before going to bed.

Abdominal fullness, distention, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, flatus; ingestion of dry nonexpanded glucomannan can cause oesophageal obstruction.

Since this reduces fasting blood glucose, insulin or oral hypoglycaemic dose should be properly titrated. It may affect absorption of vitamins B₁₂ and E.
Potentially Fatal: May reduce absorption of sulphonylureas.

May form protective barrier around food particles, thus reducing access to digestive enzymes. Food digestion and subsequent absorption is hindered.

Description:
Mechanism of Action: Glucomannan is a powdered extract from the tubers of Amorphophallus konjac. It may reduce appetite by absorbing liquid in the GI tract. It is also used in the treatment of constipation and hyperlipidaemia.
